Over the years, Lübo Lang has been driven by a steadfast commitment to originality, masterful craftsmanship, and premium ingredients. Rooted in tradition yet inspired by modern sensibilities, the restaurant refuses to be defined by a single menu. Instead, it continually reimagines Chinese culinary heritage through bold exploration, creative evolution, and a profound passion for gastronomy.

Wrapped in delicate, layered dough, this pastry is finished with a graceful curved edge-resembling the brows of a beauty. Hence its poetic name, Eyebrow Pastry. Preserved for decades, it remains one of Lübo Lang’s most beloved and iconic creations.

Eyebrow Pastry

It stands as a testament to our commitment to keeping pace with the times and aligning with global culinary trends. This creation owes its origin to a French friend. Years ago, the chairman of France's Galeries Lafayette department store suggested incorporating department store elements into Chinese pastries. Inspired by the handbags displayed in shop windows, master chef Lu Yaming transformed the idea into an edible work of art: a “handbag” made of crisp pastry, topped with a cocoa-and-flour handle in a deep brown hue, and dotted with white sesame seeds along the sides. Inside, the filling is rich, savory crab roe. French guests were delighted by this exceptionally unique pastry, and the Handbag Pastry has since become one of the restaurant’s enduring classics.

Fashion Handbag Pastry

The Longevity Peach Pastry is made from jujubes, offering a subtly sweet taste. Tailwind Leaf Pastry, encased in a vibrant green wrapper, blends peanut butter and coconut milk, offering a hint of Southeast Asian flair. The savory Gourd-Shaped Pastry boasts an ultra-crisp, paper-thin crust and a juicy filling that echoes the umami of char siu (Cantonese barbecued pork). The Mini Zongzi contains red beans, soft and subtly sweet, melting instantly on the palate. Wrapped in bamboo leaves, the 13 threads correspond to the number of strokes in the Chinese character "Fu" (福), meaning "blessing" or "good fortune."

The “First Ladies” Pastry Set

The lifelike carp dumpling symbolizes fortune and success, echoing the Chinese idiom “the carp leaping over the dragon gate.” The petite lotus-root pastries surprise diners with three distinct flavors: a first bite of fragrant, crispy pepper-salt cashew; a second filled with the richness of jujube and egg yolk; and a third offering the aroma of tangerine and walnut. Each bite tells a different story.

Lübo Lang – A Shanghai City Icon Since 1924

The story of the world’s most renowned Shanghai-style restaurant begins in 1924 beside the Zigzag Bridge of Yuyuan Bazaar. Its three-storey structure, modelled after Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, features gray tiles, vermilion railings, and upturned eaves that harmonise beautifully with the Mid-Lake Pavilion beyond. Stepping inside transports you into an ancient painting, where elegant surroundings exude rich traditional Chinese charm.

Foreign dignitaries including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, former US President Bill Clinton, and President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, alongside Chinese leaders such as Jiang Zemin and Xi Jinping, have graced the establishment with their presence.

  • Originally constructed during the Ming Dynasty as part of the Pan family's garden estate, the building was converted into a teahouse named "Le Pu Lang"

  • Renowned both domestically and internationally for its collection of iconic pastries, it was renamed Lübo Lang Restaurant and particularly acclaimed for its delicate "boat dim sum" craftsmanship.

  • Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit to China, During the banquet, the former mayor of Shanghai Jiang Zemin introduced dim sum of Lübo Lang to her. The elegant lady remarked: “Chinese pastries are even more delicious than English tea treats.”

  • The “First Ladies” Pastry Set, tailor-made for the spouses of state leaders at the 2014 CICA Summit, comprises four distinct flavors: savory Gourd-Shaped Pastry, Mini Zongzi, longevity Peach Pastry, tailwind Leaf Pastry.

  • The Lotus Rhyme Dessert Set, specially crafted for heads of state at the 2018 CIIE Welcome Banquet, featured three varieties of crispy lotus root pastries and delicately shaped carp dumplings.
